I’ve been involved in the online gambling industry since 2003. In that time, I’ve learned a little bit about what players should and shouldn’t do. These online gambling tips are some of the things I’ve learned.
1. Online Gambling Tip #1 — Don’t gamble with money you can’t afford to lose. You might have seen this tip before. I don’t think it needs much explanation, and I don’t think you need to hear it from an “online gambling insider.” But you should hear it from somewhere, and often.
2. Online Gambling Tip #2 — Don’t gamble online if it’s not legal where you live. Gambling laws vary from state to state and from country to country. If you’re gambling in a jurisdiction where it’s illegal, you’re taking risks. You probably won’t be arrested, but you might have trouble getting your money in the event of a dispute with a casino.
3. Online Gambling Tip #3 — Play games with a low house edge. The house edge is the percentage of money the casino expects to win on each bet you make over a huge number of wagers. For example, if you play perfect strategy blackjack, the house edge might be 0.5%. That means if you wager $100 per bet, the casino expects to win, on average, 50 cents per bet. The lower the house edge, the longer you can play.
4. Online Gambling Tip #4 — Learn how to play poker. Any kind of casino game offers a negative expectation to the player. That’s how casinos make their money. But if you learn how to play poker, you can get an edge over the other players be being more skillful than they are. Money won is twice as sweet as money earned.
5. Online Gambling Tip #5 — Investigate a site before depositing money there. Some online gambling sites are dishonest. That’s a hard and sad truth, but there it is. Read what’s being said in some of the larger online casino forums to get a feel for what other players are saying. Casinomeister is a good place to start, in fact.
None of these online gambling tips should be taken as gospel. I’m just a guy with an opinion myself, but at least it’s an educated opinion. Make intelligent decisions in all areas of your life, including gambling and other entertainment matters.
